Motivation Monday: Organization!!!

Is this you?!
Is clutter smothering you?!

We all know teachers have a c-r-a-z-y amount of paperwork to complete and keep up with.  I'm not an expert nor do I have the secret to making all that paperwork disappear, but I do have a system that works for me.

This is how I keep track of important forms, notes, and work samples:
I have a hanging file for each student.  They are labeled by numbers, not names.  That way I don't have to change out the tabs each year.

I have two folders in each hanging file.  One is title "Important Forms" and the other is titled "Student Work."  I printed these out on a label template and put them on the tab of each folder.

Whenever I have a meeting on a student, I can pull the file and have lots of info right at my fingertips.  It's all about working a little more up front (before the school year starts) so that I don't have to scramble for organization during the year (which we all know can get crazy).

How do you organize your students' forms, notes, and work samples?

  1. I organize my files just like yours, but I don't use numbers. I try and go through mid-year and get rid of things I don't need, and keep only the really important stuff.

  2. Hmm. I'm not going to tell you what "files" I'm using right now. There may, or may not, be a stack of unfiled papers...that have been by my desk for quite some time. I keep thinking I need to file them...but...there are so many other things to do!! Ugh.

    Well done on the organization!

  3. I do the same thing as you!! Sometimes I think I am over doing it by having two folders for each kid, but it keeps me organized. And now I dont feel alone. I did label by name though, so next year will definitely do numbers!! Thanks for the tip.

  4. I do the same thing but the 2 folders are in 2 different file boxes. I think next year I will do them all in one box. My problem is I tend to get the RTI kids so my file on work samples gets pretty full with data too. :-) I was able to find plastic folders that I have been able to use year after year and they are awesome!
