Alright, y'all! I'm OCD in my classroom and everything has it's place. You and I both know students' papers can end up anywhere and everywhere if you don't help them keep it all organized.
Here's my system:
As students are completing work throughout the week,
they keep it all in numbered pockets.
they keep it all in numbered pockets.
Every Friday, they make sure they've completed everything for the week (I give them a detailed checklist each Monday) and we staple it together. I grade the activities over the weekend and then put them in their mailboxes on Monday.
Here's a pic of the center checklist I gave the kids for last week. This week's will be a little more intense...we're starting our 7th week of school. :)
If you're looking for an amazing mailbox system, the one I bought is pretty awesome! I've had it for almost 5 years and it's still standing strong!

Wow! This is really impressive!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's one of those things I HAVE to do in order to keep the classroom running smoothly. Teach the kids a little responsibility and I won't go insane! :)
DeleteI have a pocket chart like that where I have the students put their incomplete work...similar idea....I may need to try out your suggestion!
ReplyDeleteDitto the Really Good Stuff mailbox! I have had mine for at least 5 years and its still standing! I also use lots of stacking trays for my own stuff. I have a tray with each day of the week on it. Each Friday I place all the items for the next week in each tray.
ReplyDeleteTwins, Teaching and Tacos.
The stacking trays are great, too!
DeleteI LOOOOVE this! I think it would make mt life much easier!
ReplyDeleteOh and I'm so glad I had the chance to finally meet you yesterday! :)
Adventures of a Third Grade Teacher
Yes!!! It was awesome to get to meet you as well!!!
DeleteI enjoyed meeting you yesterday! Love your blog! I use that same pocket chart for papers - my students turn their homework in there so I can easily see whose is missing.

That's awesome, Heather! And it was SO good to meet you too! :)
DeleteDana I am a first year teacher ,and I am totally overwhelmed with the amount of paperwork I have at the moment. Can you post a sample of the checklist you give the students on Mondays?
ReplyDeleteHey Hannah! I added a snapshot of the checklist to the post. It's pretty basic, but we're kicking things into high gear this upcoming week since it's the 7th week of school. :) Hope this helps!
DeleteI'm bummed that we didn't really get a chance to talk at the meetup yesterday...next time? I'm looking forward to keeping up with you Carolina girls...and the next meetup!

I know, Natalie! It's great that so many girls came out, but not so great when you're trying to talk to ALL of them! :) Def next time! I hear Charlotte is next!
DeleteLike yourself I have the hanging pocket chart and I absolutely love it! The only difference is that I use it as my mailboxes. Any papers I need to pass out or hand back to my kiddos goes in their mailboxes . It's the best.
