Awesome, Sandra!!! So glad you're along for the journey!
DeleteI love the idea of putting anchor charts in a math notebook. I have very little wall space in my room so this will be a great help. Thanks for the tips. I need to order this book.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I started the notebook, too! And you're very welcome for the tips! Hope you hop along to the other chapters and learn TONS of great ideas and tips! :)
DeleteWhat is the direct link for the video? It loads to 4 seconds and then reloads. :(
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing your thoughts!

DeleteHi Dana, don't know what rock I have been under to miss this book study....maybe I was thinking it was k-3???? I have no clue but would love to try to catch up and jump aboard:) Have a quick question.....the book itself, am thinking I could get it on my Nook but was wondering if it is something I should have the "hard" copy of instead?????

Haha, Tara! SO glad you're going to join us!!! I think getting it on your Nook would work just fine!
DeleteWow, thanks for your thoughts and ideas. I love the anchor chart notebook idea and only keeping out the manipulative that students will be using for current activities. I tend to keep them all out on a shelf but will now only keep out what is needed for student use. Still need to get the book. Can't wait to hear everyone ideas and thoughts.

Love the ideas, still waiting for my book to arrive, that's a disadvantage to living overseas. I will have some catching up to do...
ReplyDeleteAww! It will all be waiting here for you! :) No rush!
DeleteDana,
ReplyDeleteI love that you chose to make a video. What a great idea! I'm really trying to focus on creating that numeracy rich environment, especially the math wall. I also couldn't agree with you more about using the appropriate terminology for concepts. I've tried to do better with that this year, saying things like "The SUM is ___. or "The QUOTIENT is ___." It was really great to see the kids start using those same terms!
Also, I just found your blog and it's great! I'm your newest follower! I'd love for you to drop by my blog some time.

Thanks, Farrah! Glad your kids picked up on the terms and got more comfortable with them. :)

DeleteI'm so excited to join this book study!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for doing such a great job coordinating it!
My book is ordered and on its way! :o)
Yay, Pam! So glad you're going to join us!!!
DeleteDana, I've been following your blog for a while now and I don't think I've ever left a comment. I just got my book Friday and quickly got caught up. One thing I'm inspired to do to help create that numeracy rich environment is a math word wall. Vocab is so important and I think this is a great way to teach, review and reinforce it. I don't have a blog, I just read and comment on them!
ReplyDeleteAww, Nikki! That's ok! SO glad you're joining us for the book study! And yes, vocab is crucial. Hope you had a great weekend!!! :)
DeleteLove the video overview! I'm really enjoying this book study so far and I'm already working on things for my classroom.
ReplyDeleteThanks!

You're welcome, Brittany! Glad you're already working on things for your room!
DeleteI am still trying to play catch up, just finished chapter 2. I do have a question, should I have just a math word wall or can I include the vocabulary in my other word wall? Just trying to plan for next year.
ReplyDeleteThat's a tricky one. I have a separate one to make sure the kids know those are our special math words/vocab. But maybe if you keep them all together, you can color code them. For example, all the math words could be blue. Either way, it's fabulous to have the words up!
DeleteTrying to play catch up here! I love the idea of a word wall for Math vocab. What suggestions are there if you teach math in multiple classrooms, to different groups? Personal math dictionaries, perhaps? That's basically what I did last year - their Math Survival Guides.
ReplyDeletePS: Looks like the book study is a huge success - YAY! ...my book arrived late...I know I'm too late for the actual book study...
