Here are the five sentences I wrote for my kids. Then we used a thesaurus and their genius little minds to come up with several alternatives that really packed a punch!
We also discussed the differences and similiarities of the thesaurus and the dictionary. With more practice, I hope the kids will:
1. become better writers, and
2. become more efficient at using the tools and resources that are available.
Now, give me more COWBELL! :) Happy Monday, y'all!

I love it! More Cowbell!! I need more cowbell!!

Hi Dana! I did almost the exact same lesson with my third grade kiddos today too! It seems like I have done a billion adjective lessons and sentence stretching activities. These all go well but then when writing workshop comes around they seem to forget. We are currently working on fairy tales and the ultimate goal is to have the children write a fractured fairy tale on their own. We read The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig today. The kids did an amazing job picking out the elements of a fairy tale from the story and then comparing this story to the original version of The Three Little Pigs. I then asked the children to use a thesaurus and their brains to come up with more exciting choices for little, big and bad. They then used the words they found to juice up the title of the story. For example: The Miniature Wolves and the Gigantic Villainous Pig. They loved sharing what they came up with! I hope this sticks and keeps them going! Thanks for sharing. It is nice to know that I am on the same page as someone else. :) I must say I am a faithful follower and love your stuff! Gina
